AI - FACT or FAKE

As we close out 2025 and prepare to lead into 2026, this is the moment for leaders to stop and tell the truth — to themselves first.

Because if this year revealed anything, it’s that AI isn’t waiting for us to get ready.

Before the next wave of change hits, we must ask the question that separates leaders from followers:

What do I really think of AI — and what am I allowing it to become inside my organisation?

What Do You Really Think of AI?

Not the polished answer you’d give a board.
Not the vendor-approved narrative in your strategy deck.
Not the hype you repeat because everyone else is repeating it.

Your real truth.

Do you see AI as…

  • A competitive advantage?
  • A risk you’re trying to keep at arm’s length?
  • Something you don’t fully understand but feel pressured to use anyway?
  • A tool you’ve rushed to implement because you’re afraid of being left behind?
  • A runaway train no one dares admit is already off the rails?

Now the question that separates mature leadership from motion:

Do you actually have a strategy for AI — or are you calling activity a strategy?

Because…

  • Automating workflows is not a strategy.
  • Buying licences is not a strategy.
  • Piloting tools is not a strategy.
  • Telling teams to “use AI to work smarter” is definitely not a strategy.

And yet — this is where most organisations live:

Rushing forward.
Hoping for the best.
Blind to the risks.
Surprised when something snaps.

The Uncomfortable Mirror: What AI Is Already Exposing

If you want to understand what AI amplifies inside an organisation, look at what’s happening across the world’s most “trusted” consulting firms.

These are the organisations that sell AI innovation.
That advise governments and large globally organisations.
That clients assume must have it figured out.

And yet…

  • KPMG employees used AI to cheat on ethics exams.
  • Deloitte reports were revealed to contain AI-generated errors and hallucinated analysis.
  • Multiple firms have been caught using AI in audit or advisory work without proper review or safeguards.

Here is the part that matters:

These are not AI failures. These are cultural failures — revealed by AI.

AI didn’t make anyone cheat.
AI didn’t create flawed governance.
AI didn’t weaken quality controls.

It simply made the cracks impossible to hide.

Because AI is not just a tool.
It is a culture and systems failure amplifier.

In any organisation:

  • When culture tolerates shortcuts, AI accelerates them.
  • When governance is weak or manipulated, AI widens the cracks.
  • When integrity is optional, AI exposes it with brutal clarity.
  • When accountability is unclear, AI can become a weapon — or an excuse.

AI reveals an organisation’s identity — not the one pitched on the website, but the one it actually lives.

So What Is Your Attitude Toward AI Now?

Are you genuinely holding the reins…
or quietly hoping the train doesn’t derail on your watch?

Are you intentionally designing how AI fits into your organisation’s identity —
ensuring it aligns with who you say you are and how you want decisions to be made — 
or are you layering tools into the business without fully understanding the implications?

Are you treating AI as a tool that supports judgement and accountability…
or allowing it to subtly shape behaviour, choices, and culture in ways no one has consciously decided?

Are you actively building responsible intelligence
a thoughtful, values-aligned approach to adoption, governance, and monitoring — 
or is AI simply exposing gaps you hoped would stay hidden a little longer?

These questions aren’t theoretical.
They are the quiet indicators of whether an organisation is leading AI
or being led by it.

And courageous leaders are the ones choosing to look —
even when the answers are uncomfortable —
because they know the price of avoidance is always higher than the cost of awareness.

Are You Seeing Through the Illusion?

Most leaders agree:
AI provides enormous value when used responsibly, strategically, and with clear intention.

But value disappears the moment we become dazzled by “AI transformation.”

Because AI is neutral — and neutrality is dangerous when leaders are rushed, distracted, or disconnected.

We are already seeing the consequences of uncritical adoption:

  • Artists and creators having their work scraped without consent.
  • Deepfakes eroding trust and destabilising truth.
  • AI-generated misinformation treated as fact.
  • Massive environmental extraction reframed as “innovation.”
  • Organisations deploying tools with no meaningful governance or oversight.

And now consulting firms — those positioning themselves as AI pioneers — are demonstrating what happens when innovation outpaces integrity.

So we must ask:

Is this genuine transformation… or a shortcut dressed in strategy?

These moments call us back to deeper questions:

  • Where is the integrity in how AI is being used?
  • Where is the consent for how data is acquired and applied?
  • Where is the environmental stewardship behind the power we consume?
  • Where is the humanity in the decisions we automate?
  • Where is the wisdom to match the unprecedented power we’ve created?

Future generations will use these questions to judge the decisions we’re making today.
Because they will live with the consequences long after the hype has faded.

AI Is a Tool… Not the Answer

Let’s make this unmistakably clear:

AI is not the solution.
AI is not leadership.
AI is not strategy.
AI is not accountability.

It cannot replace judgement, values, discernment, or courage.

It can only amplify — never originate.

  • When systems are strong, AI strengthens them.
  • When culture is aligned, AI supports it.
  • When governance is solid, AI enhances clarity and consistency.

But…

  • When culture is misaligned, AI exposes it.
  • When shortcuts are tolerated, AI accelerates them.
  • When governance is weak, AI becomes a liability.
  • When identity is unclear, AI magnifies the confusion.

AI does not fix dysfunction.
It magnifies it.

AI does not remove accountability.
It makes the absence of it unavoidable.

AI will not save a drifting organisation — it will simply increase the speed of drift.

So the question is no longer:

“How fast can we adopt AI?”

The real question is:

“Who are we becoming as we adopt it?”

Because if risk starts and ends with people… then so does AI.
