This is why our team have created self-paced risk-based e-learning modules that are developed with people at the core. We know that making a change to how your people approach risk is about providing a new perspective and mindset towards risk. The need for your people to be self-aware and have situational awareness.

Unearth Insider Threat – Overview

Insider threat is developing a growing interest from both an academic and practice-based perspective. Insider threats can cause great damage to organisations affecting revenue and reputation and further contributing to an organisation’s risk profile. Managing insider threats is complex and challenging for organisations and many don’t know where to start.

The online learning modules build a foundation for understanding insider threat using the Unearth System 4 Risk (S4R). Starting from the introduction through to advanced, each module builds on the next. There are also specialised topic modules to support specific skills and functions within your organisation, like an insider threat analyst.

Each Unearth learning module has been guided by practitioners, psychologists, and learning experts, and contains activities, case studies, and self-assessments to enhance learning. The modules are designed to upskill and improve motivation around each topic.

Workshops are available and recommended to complement the online learning modules.

MODULE: Unearth Insider Threat – Introduction

The Unearth Insider Threat introduction online learning module provides a foundation for understanding insider threat using the Unearth System 4 Risk (S4R). In this first module you will learn how to define and identify potential insider threats and discover how you can play a key role in insider threat risk management. Unearth Insider Threat is the building block to more advanced workshops and training on the topic.

This module is designed for all organisational members to develop a base level understanding on the topic.

MODULE: Unearth Insider Threat – Intermediate & Advanced

This online learning progresses from the Introduction course. The e-learning module continues to leverage the Unearth System 4 Risk (S4R) and offers more advanced tools and techniques for engaging and managing insider threats.

Unearth Insider Threat – Intermediate and Advanced are the building blocks to more specialised focused workshops and e-learning modules on the topic. Both of these modules should be complemented with a specific Insider Threat workshop.

These module are designed for all organisational members who require a deep level understanding on the topic than offered in the prior modules, for example:

  • Intermediate module is designed for your insider threat analysts or similar, investigation teams, human resources, team leaders, managers, executive team and Board.
  • Advanced module is designed for your insider threat analysts or similar, investigation teams and their executives.

MODULE: Unearth and Analyse Insider Threat

The Unearth and Analyse Insider Threat module has been developed to provide analysts with a more in depth understanding and appreciation of the complexity of insider threat. Using Unearth’s System 4 Risk (S4R), this e-learning module provides a person-centered approach to the identification and detection of insider threats. Building upon the earlier modules, Unearth Insider Threats, participants will gain a more in depth understanding on insider threat through practice activities and case studies to enhance learning.

The module is designed for analysts to develop their knowledge on the role of the person in cases of insider threat. It provides an opportunity to analyse people-centred information, from multiple sources, which may reveal important data points for analysing the insider threat.

This module is designed for all organisational risk or security based analysts to develop an enhanced level understanding on the topic.

MODULE: Unearth and Investigate Insider Threat

The Unearth and Investigate Insider Threat builds off the earlier modules, including the Unearth Insider Threat and Unearth and Analyse Insider Threat. Participants will gain a more in depth understanding on insider threat including how to investigate insider threat incidents. This is part of the advanced modules and it specifically looks at insider threat investigative procedures, collecting evidence (the facts), and determining a way forward.

This module is designed for organisational investigators or similar (insider threat investigators, incident response teams) to develop an advanced level understanding on the topic.

MODULE: Unearth Insider Threat Recovery

The Unearth Insider Threat Recovery module builds upon earlier modules, including Unearth Insider Threats series, providing participants with a more in depth understanding on how to prepare for, respond to, and recover from insider threat incidents. This module provides key learning on developing a response, leveraging Unearth’s PUBS (Planning Under Blue Skies) program.

The module also looks to develop people-centred capabilities in recovery response following an insider threat incident, including:

  • How do people respond to an insider threat?
  • What support may be required?
    Individual recovery and the importance of psychological first aid.
  • And Organisational recovery and the importance of trust.

It is designed for organisational leaders, HR personnel, recovery and response teams, and in-house support and wellbeing staff who play an imperative role in individual and organisational recovery following insider threat incidents.

MODULE: PUBS (Planning Under Blue Skies) – Overview

Unearth’s PUBS (Planning Under Blue Skies) modules are designed for government, community organisations and businesses to rethink how they review their recovery planning strategy through a people-centered risk management approach.

Drawing on the principles of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Strategy, we Unearth ways for you to reduce risk, increase resilience, improve governance, improve decision making and better align expenditure.

The e-learning modules build on our beliefs that:

  • The unprecedented should not be the unexpected.
  • Recovery is more than restore, repair, replace and rebuild, and that
  • It’s about consequences, not impacts.

This introduction module is to support how you currently approach your strategy and planning, to ensure it is through the lens of what makes a healthy society.

COURSE: PUBS – Introduction

Unearth’s PUBS introduction online module provides a foundation for rethinking how you can review your recovery planning strategy through a people-centered risk management approach.

In this first module you will provide a foundation and draw on the principles of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Strategy, and also bust some myths. You will gain initial insight into how you can Unearth ways for you to reduce risk, increase resilience, improve governance, improve decision making and better align expenditure.

Workshops are available and recommended to complement the online learning modules.

This module is designed for all organisational members to develop a base level understanding on the topic.

Course FAQs

Our e-learning modules are designed to start from a basic level to provide foundations to grow from. There is no need for prior qualifications or “pre-requisites” to complete our modules, though the modules are designed to be completed in order from the introduction to advanced modules before exploring the specific skills based programs.

Yes, you need to start from the introduction module, as the modules build on each other. It also ensures that key foundational information and concepts has been provided, before moving into more advanced modules.

The introduction modules are designed for all employees, though as you move into the more advanced modules they have been designed with specific roles and functions in mind, so they may not be suitable. For those who do require the more advanced modules, each module builds on the next one and there are workshops to complement the modules.

As each module is online, you will be able to go through the e-learning at your own pace without needing to interact with other employees. If you are attending a workshop to apply the skills and tools learned from the module, the number of workshop participants will depend if the workshop is:

  • Specifically tailored and delivered to your organisation; or
  • You are attending a open workshop with employees from other organisations.

Insider Threat Modules

All employees should complete the first Introduction module to insider threat. The intermediate module through to advanced and other specialised topic modules should be completed by those who require those specific skills and knowledge. When in doubt, feel free to discuss with an Unearth team member.

It is great that you have participated in an insider threat program prior. That insight will serve you well. We would strongly recommend you still complete each module in order, as the modules are built around the Unearth system for risk, S4R, a person-centred approach which is proprietary to Unearth. It is also an opportunity to solidify what you have learned.

Access to E-Learning Modules

You can access the e-learning modules through Unearth’s Learning Management System (LMS) as a service. There is also the option for hosting on your own organisation’s LMS. Reach out to the Unearth team to learn more.
